Margaret Williamson
Textile Artist.
All of my life I have loved working with fabrics and threads. I am inspired by everything around me, large and small, natural and manmade. A recent visit to my local museum motivated me to learn more about the Ancient Egyptian's spells and hymns to their gods and about the journey they believed they would undertake on their way to the state of eternity. I found this fascinating and my research has led me to reflect on my motivations and enthusiasms and on the people and ideas which are of value to me. I hope to incorporate some of these thoughts into my work.
I use many different techniques in my work including machine and hand stitching and I particularly enjoy creating unique textiles out of fibres. At the moment I am experimenting with silk fibres creating silk paper which I dye, layer and embellish.
